I had a guy unscrew the faceplate on a PCI ethernet card and plug it backwards into the back half of an EISA slot once. That was memorable. "Sir, can you tell me what lights are on on your ethernet card?" "Er, do I have to? I'll have to unscrew the case and everything to do that..." "Er, what?"
